About the Workshop
The organizers of WEB would like to invite you to participate in the fourth workshop on Education in Bioinformatics, on July 30, 2004 at Glasgow, Scotland. This workshop is scheduled immediately before ISMB/ECCB 2004 (http://www.iscb.org/ismb2004/index.shtml), July 31 - Aug. 4, 2004.

WEB04 follows on from the highly successful WEB meetings held so far: the first Education in Bioinformatics meeting, WEB01, held on July 26, 2001 at Copenhagen, Denmark followed by WEB02, held on Aug. 8, 2002 at Edmonton, Canada and WEB03, on June 28, 2003 at Brisbane, Australia.

Background and Aims
In response to the worldwide shortage of trained bioinformaticians, several universities and institutes have spearheaded Bioinformatics teaching and research.  Besides organized university-based education, several certification programs are also currently under way.

This workshop aims to bring together Bioinformatics educators for to meet, discuss and exchange ideas and suggestions. WEB04 will address fundamental issues that will determine the nature, extent, content and delivery tools available for Bioinformatics programs embarked upon, as well as provide valuable lessons for focus and improvement of nascent Bioinformatics programs.

Besides oral and poster presentation sessions, the workshop will collect data from participants to suggest the guidelined for a curriculum in Bioinformatics at the under-graduate and post-graduate levels.

The meeting will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow, Scotland.

WEB04 registration will be along with ISMB/ECCB 2004 registration.

ISMB/ECCB 2004 conference rates have been extended to cover the extra day required to attend WEB04.  For more information on hotels offering special rates, please see ISMB/ECCB 2004 Housing. Hotel reservation will have to be made along with workshop registration.
