About the Workshop

The first workshop on Education in Bioinformatics was held on July 26, 2001 at Copenhagen, Denmark. This workshop was scheduled immediately after the ISMB01, July 21-25, 2001.  The workshop abstracts have been published on-line by the journal In Silico Biology.
Background and Aims
In response to the worldwide shortage of trained bioinformaticians, several universities and institutes have spearheaded Bioinformatics teaching and research.

This workshop brought together Bioinformatics educators for the first time to meet, discuss and exchange ideas and suggestions. WEB01 addressed fundamental issues that will determine the nature, extent, content and delivery tools available for Bioinformatics programs embarked upon, as well as provide valuable lessons for focus and improvement of nascent Bioinformatics programs.

Besides oral presentation sessions, the workshop featured a tutorial lecture on how to set up a Bioinformatics teaching program.

The meeting was held on July 26th in Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen.

WEB01 registration was along with ISMB01 registration. Participants who were not registering for ISMB01 but would wished to attend this workshop alone could register here.
